Kathryn set up Sustainability Consult in 2008 because she believed in a different type of consultancy. An entrepreneur and self-confessed sustainability geek, Kathryn is passionate about responsible business and credible communications. She also knows more about green chemistry and the bio-based industries than she ever thought possible.

A former energy and environment journalist, Kathryn moderates high-level industry conferences and EU policy events. She lectures, blogs and writes columns on sustainability and the bioeconomy. Her proudest professional achievement is becoming the first European Ambassador for 1% for the Planet.

When she’s not working, Kathryn writes a whole foods blog, attempts to do yoga and runs off to the mountains to ski and snowshoe.

Barbara joined Sustainability Consult in 2013 and is a key member of the Communications Team. We first met Bárbara on Twitter and she worked her way up from Communications Assistant to Junior Consultant and in August 2014, she became a fully-fledged Consultant. Bárbara is passionate about sustainability yet brings the healthy scepticism we expect from the millennial generation.

She previously worked at climate think tank E3G, climate and energy blog Carbon Brief and on corporate responsibility for the European Investment Bank.

Zoe plays a key role in Sustainability Consult’s business development, a task she tackles with drive and passion. After a Masters in Environmental Studies and Sustainability Science from Lund University, Sweden, Zoe co-founded the bilingual e-magazine Artivist before coming to Brussels to find a job in sustainability. Luckily, she found us.

Zoe and Kathryn are a regular fixture at bio-based industry conferences where Zoe is also known for after-hours conversations on Greek philosophy and politics. Many of her life lessons were learned from her adventures with the Sea Scouts which means we always have someone to tie knots and who isn’t afraid of getting lost at sea.

Richard moved to Brussels from the Centre for Alternative Technology in Machynlleth, Wales. His background in digital media and desire to live more sustainably means that he is passionate about environmental communications. As a media and marketing liaison for the Zero Carbon Britain report, Richard collaborated with policymakers, influencers and the general public.

Rick is our go-to guy for all things creative. An integral part of the Sustainability Consult team, Rick lives our values of Insight, Experience, Delivery, delivering top notch print, online and exhibition design within tight deadlines. We’re quite sure we’d be lost without him. With over 20 years in the business, Rick worked with many of the top brands and advertising agencies before branching out on his own.

Rick relishes the opportunity to hop on the Eurostar to Brussels for client meetings and a catch-up with the rest of the team, usually over lunch in a nice Belgian brasserie. Rick enjoys skiing, golf, tennis and hanging out with his wife and kids.

Wannes and Thomas from bigtrees are based close by in Ghent. They are graphic designers experienced in public behaviour change campaigns like ’Veggiedag’, a campaign which saw the city of Ghent declare every Thursday ‘Veggie day’.  Their goal is simple – to make ‘good things grow’ by promoting the real yet fun benefits of sustainable living.  They have a fresh and funky approach to sustainability design – we know this first-hand as they designed our fabulous Sustainability Consult community activities logos.

Marion has over 30 years’ EU experience in journalism and consulting. Still today, she is one of the longest-serving energy reporters for the Platts newswire. A former diplomat for the Hong Kong government, our clients want Marion on their side when facing thorny policy issues and crisis communications which explains why she is a key member of our media training team. Fortunately for us, Marion seems reluctant to retire and enjoys travelling and mountain walking.

Tim started his career as a research chemist and then technology transfer manager for a major energy company before migrating into communications work. He enjoyed two periods working with BBC TV Science & Features and spent over ten years working in public relations agencies in London. Now based in Brussels and the rural UK, Tim is an experienced writer and communication consultant able to cover a wide range of scientific, technology and innovation issues.

Tim has worked with clients in research, academia, government and industry and is able to handle pretty much any ‘ology’ you want to throw at him, but he has a special fondness for sustainable chemistry and energy issues. Tim is a chartered chemist and is secretary of the Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC) Belgium section: a continental outpost of the UK’s professional organisation for chemistry and the molecular sciences. He is also a member of the RSC’s Government Affairs Committee.

Ana is our very own climate researcher and in-house scientist, although she says we’re not to call her Dr Ana. We enticed Ana out of the lab after her PhD in marine biology and research into the effects of ocean acidification. Ana adds another dimension to our science communications and pulls us up for calling microorganisms bugs. She was part of the Core Team from 2011-2013 and left to go travelling in Patagonia where she had conducted field research for her PhD. Ana moved to the Senior Advisor Team in 2014 and continues to support us on science-based communications.
