Press Release: Valuable phosphorus from sewage sludge: AVA cleanphos pilot plant comes online

The race is on: the AVA cleanphos pilot plant in Karlsruhe, sponsored by the German Federal Environment Foundation (DBU), came online at the beginning of July 2016. Leading biotechnology company AVA-CO2 has developed the AVA cleanphos process which enables efficient and cost-effective recovery of phosphorus from sewage sludge. The process also allows for co-incineration in the future and therefore the direct substitution of fossil fuels such as lignite.

Pavel Bláha Joins Sustainability Consult

Sustainability Consult is pleased to welcome Pavel Bláha as its new Communications Assistant.  Pavel is a master’s student in Environmental Studies and Media Studies at Masaryk University in Brno.

Pavel comes from the Czech Republic and he grew up in a small town in South Bohemia surrounded by beautiful lakes.  Brussels is the first place he is going to live outside the Czech Republic.  He was inspired to join the Sustainability Consult Team because of his interest in environmental communications and social marketing. During his internship, he wants to learn more about creating campaigns and consultancy.

I believe that there’s no contradiction between being a business and doing good.  Since 2012, we have donated 1% of our sales to local nature conservation group Natuurpunt as part of our membership of 1% for the Planet.  I was the first European Ambassador for 1% for the Planet and have been spreading the word about this great initiative ever since.

We’re really excited to be going on Saturday 2 July to the opening of our latest Natuurpunt project, the Bezoekerscentrum Groene Vallei (Green Valley Visitors’ Centre) in Erps-Kwerps, half an hour outside Brussels.
